Blue flag | Iris versicolor

    Description

Blue flag (Iris versicolor) is an elegant marginal pond plant with narrow, upright foliage and branched stems that carry several bluish-purple flowers. Each bloom has a distinctive spotted yellow throat, adding striking colour and detail to the water’s edge in June and July.

This marginal iris is suitable for full sun to part shade and has a slow growth rate, making it a good choice for smaller ponds or more controlled planting schemes. Like all irises, the tubers are harmful if eaten, so it is best sited where pets and children will not disturb it.

Planted in the shallows around a pond, Iris versicolor helps soften hard edges and contributes to a more natural look. Marginal plants like this provide valuable cover and structure around the pond margin, helping to create a more wildlife-friendly garden water feature.

      Care Instructions

Blue Flag Poison Flag (Iris versicolor) Care Instructions:

This beautiful marginal iris thrives in full sun to part shade, making it versatile for various garden locations. Its growth is slow, forming a neat clump of narrow foliage. In autumn, once the foliage has died back, carefully cut the stems to just above the water surface to prepare the plant for winter. If you prefer to trim in spring, be cautious to avoid damaging the new emerging shoots. This plant prefers well-drained, slightly alkaline soil and requires minimal watering once established. Remember, all parts of the Blue Flag Poison Flag are toxic if ingested, so keep it away from children and pets. Following these simple steps ensures your Iris versicolor will bring vibrant blue blooms to your garden year after year.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.
