Bog arum Water arum | Calla palustris

    Description

Bog arum / Water arum (Calla palustris) is a striking marginal pond plant with glossy, heart-shaped leaves and elegant white flowers from June to August. After flowering, it produces bright red seed heads that add late-season interest at the water’s edge.

This medium-growing marginal plant is ideal for planting in shallow water or damp soil around the pond, where it will slowly creep to form attractive clumps. Bog arum thrives in full sun to part shade, making it a versatile choice for a range of pond positions.

As a marginal plant, Calla palustris helps soften pond edges and provides valuable cover and habitat for pond wildlife. Its flowers offer a seasonal focal point, while the bold foliage brings structure and texture to naturalistic and ornamental pond designs alike.

      Care Instructions

Bog arum (Calla palustris) thrives best in full sun to part shade, making it versatile for various garden settings. As a marginal plant, it prefers moist soil conditions typically found near ponds or in woodland gardens. This medium growth rate plant has a creeping habit, spreading slowly from its original planting spot. During summer, you can prune the new shoots to encourage branching and a fuller appearance. These cuttings can also be gently pushed into moist soil to propagate new plants. Regular watering is essential to keep the soil consistently damp but not waterlogged. With proper care, Bog arum adds elegant texture and seasonal interest with its unique white flowers and bright red seed heads, perfect for creating a natural, flowing garden margin.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.
