Clubrush | Scirpus lacustris

    Description

Clubrush (Scirpus lacustris) is a striking native marginal pond plant with tall, dark green stems topped by clusters of rich chocolate-brown flowers. Flowering from July to September, this architectural rush brings strong vertical structure and natural character to wildlife ponds, lakes and larger water features.

This fast-growing marginal thrives in full sun to part shade, making it a versatile choice for a range of planting schemes. Clubrush is especially popular with landscapers for native and naturalistic designs, where its dense growth helps create valuable cover and shelter around the water’s edge.

Planted in the shallows, Scirpus lacustris provides excellent marginal cover that softens hard pond edges and contributes to a more balanced, wildlife-friendly pond environment. Its combination of bold foliage and subtle brown flower clusters makes Clubrush an ideal choice for adding height, texture and seasonal interest to UK ponds and wetland gardens.

      Care Instructions

Clubrush (Scirpus lacustris) is a hardy marginal plant that thrives in full sun to part shade. It grows quickly, making it an excellent choice for wetland edges and water gardens where fast coverage is desired. To maintain its tidy appearance, simply trim the foliage just above the water surface after it has died back in autumn. This minimal maintenance helps promote healthy new growth while ensuring the plant continues to provide natural cover for wildlife. Clubrush is an ideal, low-maintenance option for gardeners seeking a durable, native wetland plant that supports biodiversity with easy care.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.

      Returns & problems on arrival

Because we sell live aquatic plants and molluscs, some parts of our policy work differently from standard retail.

Live plants and molluscs are perishable and are not suitable for routine returns once they have been prepared for dispatch.
