Mixed Marginal Pond Plants – 8 Litre Contour Basket | Grower’s Choice

    Description

Create an established marginal planting feature with four complementary pond plants selected by our growers and supplied together in a ready-planted 8 litre contour basket.

Rather than working to a fixed species combination, our growers select from suitable marginal pond plants according to plant health, vigour, seasonal condition and availability. Wherever possible, the selection combines contrasting heights, foliage textures, growth habits and flowering periods to create a balanced and attractive display.

The four plants are already planted together in an 8 litre Finofil contour aquatic basket using peat-free aquatic compost, so there is no need to select individual baskets, compost or plants before positioning the collection in your pond.

The curved contour basket is particularly well suited to pond shelves, where it can sit neatly alongside the pond edge and create a fuller, more integrated planting effect than several small individual baskets.

Unlike our Colourful Marginal Pond Plant Kits, this collection is designed as a self-contained planted feature rather than to provide a particular quantity of marginal planting for a specified pond surface area. It can therefore be added to a new or established pond of any size, provided there is a suitable shallow shelf or marginal planting position.

The exact species supplied will vary throughout the season. Product images should therefore be regarded as representative of the type of planting combination you will receive rather than a guarantee of particular varieties.

As well as providing visual structure and seasonal interest, marginal planting creates valuable habitat at the transition between water and land. Emergent foliage and stems can provide shelter, resting places and cover for a wide range of pond wildlife.

Explore our Colourful Marginal Pond Plant Kits if you would prefer separate marginal plants that can be positioned individually around your pond, or browse our full Marginal Pond Plants range to choose particular varieties.

      Growing Instructions

Position the basket on a suitable pond shelf where the water level is between 0 and 20cm above the top of the basket.

Newly planted marginals often establish well towards the shallower end of their planting range. If practical, begin at around 5–10cm below the water surface and lower the basket slightly later if required.

Planting depth is measured from the top of the aquatic basket to the water surface.

Choose a position where the plants receive good natural light. Most ornamental marginals perform best in full sun to partial shade, although the requirements of individual varieties within the Grower’s Choice selection may vary.

The plants are already established together in the contour basket and do not need repotting before being placed in the pond.

Our Pond Planting Zones Guide explains the different planting areas around a pond if you need help identifying the best position.

      Care Instructions

After delivery, unpack the basket promptly and follow our Receiving and Caring for Your Pond Plants guidance before positioning it in the pond.

Remove damaged or dying foliage as required and trim spent flower stems where appropriate.

The individual plants may emerge, flower and die back at different times, so seasonal differences within the basket are normal.

As the planting matures, remove excessive growth where necessary so that one vigorous variety does not overwhelm the others.

Remove accumulated dead leaves and other debris from around the basket where practical to help maintain good water quality.

Established marginal plants may eventually require division or renovation if the basket becomes congested.

      Growers Tips

Contour baskets work particularly well along the outer edge of a pond shelf, where their curved shape can follow the pond margin and help reduce the appearance of exposed basket edges.

For the most natural result, position the basket so that the different heights and forms contribute to the wider planting around it rather than treating it as an isolated object.

In an established pond, use the basket to strengthen an area that lacks height, foliage or seasonal interest. In a newly planted pond, it can provide an immediate established feature while other plants develop around it.

Remember that this is a marginal planting feature rather than a complete pond planting scheme. Our Balanced Pond Planting Guide explains how marginal plants can be combined with submerged, floating and deeper-water planting.

      Wildlife Tips

Marginal planting creates important structure at the pond edge. Emergent stems and foliage can provide cover for amphibians and aquatic invertebrates, resting and emergence points for dragonflies, and shelter at the transition between water and surrounding vegetation.

Using several plant heights within one basket also creates a more varied habitat than a single uniform planting.

For greater wildlife value across the pond as a whole, combine marginal planting with submerged vegetation, some surface cover and areas of open water.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.

      Returns & problems on arrival

Because we sell live aquatic plants and molluscs, some parts of our policy work differently from standard retail.

Live plants and molluscs are perishable and are not suitable for routine returns once they have been prepared for dispatch.

If there is a genuine issue on arrival, please contact us within 24 hours using the form on our Contact page, with your order number, photographs, and a short explanation.

We will always review genuine issues carefully and fairly. Depending on the circumstances, the appropriate remedy may include a replacement, refund, or partial refund where appropriate.

Please do not send anything back unless we have agreed this with you in writing first.
