Colourful Marginal Pond Plant Kit – 4 x 3 Litre | Grower’s Choice

    Description

Bring more immediate colour, structure and seasonal interest to your pond with a collection of four larger, established marginal pond plants, selected by our growers from our wider Marginal Pond Plants range.

Rather than working to a fixed species list, we choose the plants shortly before dispatch, taking account of plant health, vigour, seasonal condition and ornamental interest. Wherever possible, the selection will combine different heights, growth habits, foliage and flowers to create a varied and attractive mix around the pond edge.

The larger 3 litre format gives these plants greater presence from the outset, making this pack particularly suitable where you want to create a more established look without waiting for smaller plants to develop.

All four plants are supplied established in 3 litre Finofil aquatic baskets, so there is no need to repot them before placing them in the pond. Simply position each plant at the appropriate depth shown on its individual plant label.

As a guide, four established 3 litre marginals provide a substantial amount of marginal planting for a pond up to approximately 3m². This refers specifically to the marginal element of the pond rather than a complete planting scheme. A balanced pond may also benefit from oxygenating, floating or deeper-water plants depending on its depth, shape and existing planting. Our How Many Pond Plants Do I Need? guide explains the wider planting balance in more detail.

The pack is equally useful in a larger or already established pond where you want to introduce more substantial individual plants, fill larger gaps or create stronger points of colour and structure around the pond edge.

Because the varieties are selected seasonally, the exact plants supplied will vary and the product images should be regarded as representative of the type of collection you will receive. This flexibility allows our growers to select from the strongest plants available at the time rather than being restricted to a fixed combination.

      Growing Instructions

Place each plant on a suitable pond shelf or shallow-water area at the planting depth shown on the individual plant label supplied. Planting depth is measured from the top of the aquatic basket to the water surface.

Because this is a Grower’s Choice collection, the correct depth can vary between the individual plants. Our Pond Planting Zones Guide explains the different planting areas around a pond and can help when deciding where to position each basket.

The plants are already established in 3 litre Finofil aquatic baskets and do not normally need repotting before being placed in the pond.

Most colourful marginals flower most freely in good light. Full sun to partial shade will suit the range from which these collections are selected, although the performance of individual varieties will vary.

Allow sufficient space around each basket for the plants to develop. The larger 3 litre plants will already have more presence than younger stock and may increase considerably in size once established.

Rather than spacing the four plants evenly around the entire pond edge, use differences in height, form and flowering interest to create stronger planting groups or individual focal points.

      Care Instructions

After delivery, unpack the plants promptly and follow our Receiving and Caring for Your Pond Plants guidance before placing them in the pond.

Remove dead or damaged foliage as required and trim spent flowering stems where appropriate. Different marginal plants emerge, flower and die back at different times, so seasonal variation between the four plants is normal.

As the plants establish, manage excessive growth where necessary and divide congested plants when they begin to outgrow their baskets.

Avoid cutting all marginal growth back too early in autumn. Leaving some stems standing through winter can provide useful structure and habitat before old growth is removed ahead of the new growing season.

      Growers Tips

Use the larger plants to create structure rather than distributing them mechanically around the pond edge. A taller or more architectural variety can form a focal point, with lower-growing plants positioned where their flowers and foliage remain clearly visible.

If you are adding the collection to an established pond, identify areas that lack height, colour or seasonal interest and use the larger 3 litre plants to strengthen those parts of the planting scheme.

Allow adequate room for future growth. Established marginals can develop strongly during the growing season, so leaving some space between plants usually creates a better long-term result than crowding baskets together for immediate coverage.

For a newly planted pond, remember that these four plants provide the marginal element only. Our Balanced Pond Planting Guide explains how marginal, submerged, floating and deeper-water plants can be combined to create a more complete planting scheme.

      Wildlife Tips

Marginal plants create valuable structure where land and water meet. Their stems and foliage can provide shelter for frogs, newts and aquatic invertebrates, while flowering varieties offer feeding opportunities for bees, hoverflies and other visiting insects.

Larger established marginals can provide useful cover relatively quickly, particularly when positioned alongside areas of lower or more open planting.

For greater habitat diversity, combine marginal planting with submerged growth and some surface cover while retaining areas of open water.

      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.
