Drumstick primrose | Primula denticulata

    Description

The Drumstick primrose (Primula denticulata) is a charming moisture-loving perennial, ideal for adding early spring colour around ponds and in damp garden borders. Its distinctive drumstick-shaped flower heads appear in March and April, each packed with small blooms with soft yellow centres. Available in shades of purple and white, this Primula brings a fresh, cheerful look just as the garden is waking up for the season.

Thriving in full sun to part shade, Drumstick primrose is well suited to the cooler, moist conditions often found at the pond edge or in boggy spots. With its slow growth rate, it forms neat clumps that won’t overwhelm neighbouring plants. As a moisture lover, it helps soften pond margins and can contribute to a more natural, wildlife-friendly setting by adding low, flowering cover around the water’s edge.

              Care Instructions

Light: Drumstick Primrose thrives in full sun to part shade. Choose a spot with morning sunlight and some afternoon shade for best results.

Watering: As a moisture-loving plant, it prefers consistently moist soil. Water regularly to keep the soil damp but avoid waterlogging.

Soil: Plant in well-drained, loamy soil that retains moisture to support healthy growth and vibrant blooms.

Growth Rate: This primula grows slowly, making it a perfect long-lasting addition to your garden.

Maintenance: Trim back dead foliage in autumn to encourage healthy new growth and maintain an attractive appearance.

              Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
              Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.

              Returns & problems on arrival

Because we sell live aquatic plants and molluscs, some parts of our policy work differently from standard retail.

Live plants and molluscs are perishable and are not suitable for routine returns once they have been prepared for dispatch.

If there is a genuine issue on arrival, please contact us within 24 hours using the form on our Contact page, with your order number, photographs, and a short explanation.

We will always review genuine issues carefully and fairly. Depending on the circumstances, the appropriate remedy may include a replacement, refund, or partial refund where appropriate.

Please do not send anything back unless we have agreed this with you in writing first.

For full details, please see our Refunds & Returns Policy.
