Flowering rush | Butomus umbellatus

    Description

Flowering rush (Butomus umbellatus) is an elegant marginal pond plant, ideal for adding height, colour and structure to the water’s edge. In summer, from June to August, pretty pink flowers are carried in airy umbels above distinctive, triangular leaves. Young foliage often emerges with reddish tones before maturing to a rich dark green, creating season-long interest.

This fast-growing marginal thrives in full sun and is well suited to planting in shallow water or at the pond margin. Flowering rush helps soften hard pond edges and contributes to a more natural look, while its upright leaves and flower stems offer valuable cover and shelter around the waterline. A classic choice for wildlife-friendly ponds and naturalistic planting schemes, Butomus umbellatus works beautifully alongside other sun-loving marginals to create a vibrant, layered pond display.

It requires minimal maintenance; simply trim the foliage just above the water surface after it has died back in autumn to keep your water garden tidy. Ideal for both beginners and experienced gardeners, flowering rush adds vibrant pink blooms from June to August with little effort. Ensure it receives plenty of sunlight for the best growth and flowering results.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.
