Iris louisiana 'Ann Chowning'

    Description

Iris louisiana 'Ann Chowning' is a striking marginal pond plant, prized for its velvety dark cherry red flowers with a bright yellow centre. Awarded the prestigious Mary Swords Debaillon Award, this Louisiana iris brings a touch of elegance and rich colour to pond edges and boggy borders.

Flowering in June and July, Iris louisiana 'Ann Chowning' provides vibrant summer interest in full sun to part shade. Its medium growth rate makes it a good choice for building up attractive clumps without becoming overwhelming.

As a marginal plant, it is ideal for shallow water or damp soil around the pond, helping to soften hard edges and add vertical structure. Marginal plants like this iris can also contribute to a wildlife-friendly pond by offering shelter and surface cover. Please note: as with all iris, the tubers are harmful if eaten.

      Care Instructions

Plant your Iris louisiana 'Ann Chowning' in a location with full sun to part shade for optimal blooming. This medium-growth marginal iris thrives best in well-drained soil near water features or moist garden beds. After the foliage naturally dies back in autumn, prune the leaves carefully to just above the water surface to maintain plant health and appearance. If pruning is delayed until spring, be cautious to avoid damaging the emerging shoots. Regular care and appropriate placement will ensure vibrant, velvety dark cherry-red blooms each June and July, enhancing your garden borders or containers with striking color.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.
