Marsh cinquefoil | Potentilla palustris

    Description

Marsh cinquefoil (Potentilla palustris) is an attractive marginal pond plant, ideal for adding natural colour and texture to the water’s edge. Its pretty, sharply jagged, toothed leaves are divided into leaflets, creating a delicate, fern-like effect that looks at home in wildlife and ornamental ponds alike.

From early summer to early autumn (June to September), reddish brown, vine-like stems carry distinctive red-purple flowers, bringing a rich, deep tone to your pond planting scheme. Marsh cinquefoil grows at a medium rate and is suitable for full sun to part shade, making it a flexible choice for many pond positions.

As a marginal plant, Potentilla palustris helps soften pond edges, offers shelter for aquatic wildlife, and contributes to a more natural, balanced pond environment. Its long flowering season and striking foliage make it a valuable addition to UK garden ponds.

Marsh cinquefoil (Potentilla palustris) thrives best in full sun to part shade, making it versatile for various garden settings including sunny borders and shaded marginal areas. This medium-growing plant requires minimal maintenance, ideal for gardeners seeking easy care options. After the foliage has died back in autumn, trim the stems just above the water surface or soil line to keep the plant tidy and encourage healthy growth next season. Regular pruning helps maintain its attractive shape and promotes vibrant blooms from June to September. Ensure the plant is placed in well-drained soil to support its growth, and enjoy its striking red-purple flowers and textured foliage with minimal effort throughout the growing season.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.
