Marsh St John's wort | Hypericum elodes

    Description

Marsh St John’s wort (Hypericum elodes) is a charming marginal pond plant, ideal for softening the edges of ponds and streams. Its green-grey, softly hairy foliage creates a glaucous, almost silvery effect that contrasts beautifully with water and surrounding plants.

This marginal plant produces small, saucer-shaped yellow flowers in late spring and early summer, adding a gentle splash of colour in May and June. Marsh St John’s wort grows slowly, making it a good choice for gardeners who prefer a more controlled, low-spread plant around the water’s edge.

Thriving in full sun to part shade, Hypericum elodes is well suited to a range of UK pond settings. As a marginal pond plant, it helps provide valuable cover and structure at the water’s edge, contributing to a more natural look and offering general shelter for pond wildlife.

      Care Instructions

Marsh St John’s Wort (Hypericum elodes) is a low-maintenance marginal plant perfect for water gardens, ponds, and streams. It thrives in full sun to part shade, making it versatile for various garden settings. This slow-growing plant requires little upkeep; simply trim the foliage to tidy the plant as needed. After the foliage dies back in autumn, pruning helps maintain its neat appearance and encourages healthy growth. Its natural preference for marshy or wet soils means it performs best when kept consistently moist. Ideal for adding soft green-grey foliage and cheerful yellow blooms to shaded or sunny corners, Marsh St John’s Wort is a durable and attractive choice for enhancing water features and wet garden edges.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.

      Returns & problems on arrival

Because we sell live aquatic plants and molluscs, some parts of our policy work differently from standard retail.
