Mini Pond and Deep Water Plant Kit

    Description

If you want the simplest way to create a beautiful planted container pond, this is the best place to start. The Mini Pond and Deep Water Plant Kit gives you a complete, balanced setup that is easy to assemble and easy to enjoy.

A mini pond is one of the easiest and most rewarding ways to introduce water, planting and natural garden interest to a patio, balcony or small garden. It creates a calm focal point, takes only a few minutes to set up, and needs very little ongoing care beyond checking water levels in warm weather.

This compact container pond is designed with simplicity in mind. The round 55cm bowl includes an internal lip that supports a wire mesh frame just below the water surface. This securely holds the 1 litre square Finofil baskets in place, while the space below allows a deep water plant to grow naturally from the base of the pond.

The kit includes the bowl, wire mesh frame, one 1 litre deep water plant and three 1 litre seasonal marginal and oxygenating plants. The deep water plant is usually water hawthorn or another suitable variety selected by our growers at the time of dispatch. Together, the planting creates a more complete and natural-looking miniature pond, with a pleasing balance of surface interest, vertical structure and seasonal variation.

This is the best all-round option in the range. It suits customers who want a ready-planted pond without needing to choose individual plants, and it is especially well suited to those who prefer a more natural planted look rather than a strongly floral one. It can also be a better choice than the lily version in slightly shadier positions.

If you would rather choose your own plants, see our Mini Pond Kit. If you want a more decorative, flower-led option for a sunnier position, see our Mini Pond and Dwarf Water Lily Kit.

The planted kit offers a worthwhile saving compared with buying the plants and bowl separately. For the best finish, we recommend topping the baskets with washed aquatic gravel. It improves appearance, helps keep compost in place, and reduces disturbance in the water.

      Product Details

      Potted plants
Each Pond in a Pot planting kit contains a balanced selection of aquatic plants, chosen by our expert growers at the time of dispatch. The potted plants are supplied in 1 litre aquatic baskets and may include a mix of:

      • A floating and flowering deep-water plant to add surface cover and early season visual interest (this is usually a Water Hawthorn)
      • 3 marginal and oxygenting plants to provide height, flowers and perching points for insects and birds

Plant choices vary seasonally and are selected for compact growth and suitability for container ponds.

      Growing Instructions

      1. Placement
Most container ponds perform best in a sunny or lightly shaded position. Sun encourages flowering and healthy growth, while some shade can help reduce excessive water warming.

      2. Position the bowl
Place the bowl on a completely flat, solid surface.

      3. Fill with water
Rainwater is ideal. However, tap water can also be used; if practical, leave the water to stand for up to 48 hours before adding the plant.

      4. Add the deep water plant
Place the deep water plant directly on the base of the bowl.

      5. Insert the mesh shelf
Position the wire mesh shelf so it sits securely just below the water surface. If the shoots of the deep water plant are long enough, gently ease them through the mesh so that they are free to float on the surface.

      6. Add the marginal and oxygenating plants
Place the three marginal and oxygenating plants, in their Finofil baskets, into the mesh openings so they sit upright and stable.

      7. Let the pond settle
The pond will quickly begin to look natural as the plants adjust.

      8. Fish and snails
This pond is designed for plants only. We do not recommend adding fish or snails as the container is too small to be able to support them.

      Care Instructions
      • Top up water levels during warm weather
      • Avoid adding chemicals; healthy planting supports natural balance

See our guides for further guidance on setting up your pond

      Growers Tips

Washed aquatic gravel is one of the best finishing touches. It improves appearance, helps keep compost in place, and reduces disturbance in the water. Once the pond has settled, you can also add a small oxygenator or one extra marginal for additional planting interest.

      Wildlife Tips

Even a compact planted pond can help support garden wildlife. It can provide drinking and bathing water for birds, and may attract pollinating insects and passing dragonflies. Its main role is to provide an attractive, manageable planted water feature that can still bring a little extra life into the garden, and support it year after year.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.

      Returns & problems on arrival

Because we sell live aquatic plants and molluscs, some parts of our policy work differently from standard retail.

Live plants and molluscs are perishable and are not suitable for routine returns once they have been prepared for dispatch.

If there is a genuine issue on arrival, please contact us within 24 hours using the form on our Contact page, with your order number, photographs, and a short explanation.

We will always review genuine issues carefully and fairly. Depending on the circumstances, the appropriate remedy may include a replacement, refund, or partial refund where appropriate.

Please do not send anything back unless we have agreed this with you in writing first.

For full details, please see our Refunds & Returns Policy.
