Mini Pond Kit

    Description

A simple and elegant way to create your own planted mini pond, the Pond Bowl and Mesh Kit gives you a ready-made structure for a customised container pond in a patio, balcony or small garden setting.

If you would like the look and enjoyment of a mini pond, but prefer to choose your own planting, this kit offers the perfect starting point. The 55cm stone-look bowl includes a built-in internal support system that makes it easy to create a compact planted pond with very little fuss.

Inside the bowl, an internal lip supports a wire mesh frame just below the water surface. This is designed to hold standard 1 litre Finofil aquatic baskets securely in place, while leaving space beneath for a deep water plant, miniature waterlily or oxygenators. The result is a neat, versatile structure that makes planning and planting a container pond much easier.

This version is ideal for customers who want more freedom over the final look. You might create a soft, wildlife-friendly planting scheme, a more floral summer display, or a foliage-led design with strong structure and texture. It is also a good option for customers who already have some plants and want a purpose-designed bowl to display them properly.

For a more affordable planting approach, you can also use standard 1 litre Finofil baskets planted up with selected 9cm aquatic plants. If planting your own baskets, we recommend using aquatic compost and topping with washed aquatic gravel for the best finish.

If you would prefer a ready-planted option, see our Mini Pond and Deep Water Plant Kit for the easiest balanced choice, or our Mini Pond and Dwarf Water Lily Kit for a more decorative summer-flowering display.

Easy to set up in just a few minutes and requiring very little ongoing care, this is a simple, flexible way to create a planted container pond with your own personal character.

      Growing Instructions

      1. Placement
Most container ponds perform best in a sunny or lightly shaded position. Sun encourages flowering and healthy growth, while some shade can help reduce excessive water warming.

      2. Position the bowl
Place the bowl on a completely flat, solid surface.

No loose soil or compost should be added to the bowl; only use aquatic baskets to hold plants and compost.

      3. Fill with water
Rainwater is ideal. However, tap water can also be used; if practical, leave the water to stand for up to 48 hours before adding the plant.

      4. Add the deep water plant or lily
If using them, place the deep water plant, miniature lily or oxygenators directly on the base of the bowl in their Finofil aquatic baskets.

      5. Insert the mesh frame
Position the wire mesh frame so it sits securely just below the water surface. If the shoots of the deep water plant or lily are long enough, gently ease them through the mesh so that they are free to float on the surface.

      6. Add planted baskets
Place your planted 1 litre Finofil baskets into the mesh openings so they sit upright and stable. If repotting 9cm plants or cuttings from other plants, only use aquatic compost, and dress the top with aquatic planting gravel.

      7. Let the pond settle
The pond will quickly begin to look natural as the plants adjust.

      8. Fish and snails
This pond is designed for plants only. We do not recommend adding fish or snails as the container is too small to be able to support them.

      Care Instructions
      • Check water levels regularly, especially during warm or windy weather, and top up as needed.
      • Keep planting tidy by removing tired growth as the season progresses.
      • If planting your own baskets, use aquatic compost and top with washed aquatic gravel to help hold everything neatly in place.
      • This pond is designed for plants and is not suitable for fish or snails.
      Growers Tips

This bowl and mesh frame system works best when planted with a clear mix of structure and surface interest. A deep water plant or miniature lily in the base, combined with marginals in the mesh frame, usually creates the most satisfying result. If you are planting your own baskets, use aquatic compost and top with washed aquatic gravel for a neater finish and less disturbance in the water.

      Wildlife Tips

Even a compact planted pond can bring extra life into the garden. It can provide drinking and bathing water for birds, and may attract pollinating insects and passing dragonflies. By choosing your own planting, you can shape the pond more towards foliage, flowers or gentle wildlife interest, while still keeping it manageable in a small space.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.

      Returns & problems on arrival

Because we sell live aquatic plants and molluscs, some parts of our policy work differently from standard retail.

Live plants and molluscs are perishable and are not suitable for routine returns once they have been prepared for dispatch.

If there is a genuine issue on arrival, please contact us within 24 hours using the form on our Contact page, with your order number, photographs, and a short explanation.

We will always review genuine issues carefully and fairly. Depending on the circumstances, the appropriate remedy may include a replacement, refund, or partial refund where appropriate.

Please do not send anything back unless we have agreed this with you in writing first.

For full details, please see our Refunds & Returns Policy.
