Mini Pond Kit from £95 — Choose Empty, Deep Water or Dwarf Lily Plants

    Description

Create a beautiful mini pond in a pot with the option that suits you best. This flexible mini pond kit gives you a simple, elegant way to add water, planting and natural garden interest to a patio, balcony, courtyard or small garden — without needing to dig a pond.

Choose the Mini Pond Kit Only if you would like the bowl and mesh frame and prefer to select your own plants. This is the best option if you already have plants, want to create your own planting scheme, or would like to browse our pond plant collections and starter packs separately.

Choose the Deep Water Plant Kit if you want the easiest ready-planted option. This version includes a deep water plant, usually water hawthorn or another suitable seasonal variety, plus three marginal and oxygenating plants selected by our growers. It creates a natural-looking mini pond with surface interest, upright texture and a balanced planted feel.  This kit works well in both full sun and shady settings.

Choose the Dwarf Water Lily Kit if you want the most decorative option. This premium planted version includes a dwarf water lily for floating foliage and summer flowers, plus three seasonal marginal and oxygenating plants. It is especially well suited to sunnier positions where the lily can perform at its best.

All three options use the same compact 55cm stone-look bowl and internal mesh planting frame. The frame sits just below the water surface and is designed to hold 1 litre square Finofil aquatic baskets securely in place, while leaving space below for a deep water plant, miniature lily or oxygenators. The result is a neat, manageable mini pond that is quick to assemble and easy to enjoy.

Mini ponds are one of the simplest ways to bring water into a small space. They create a calm focal point, support a more natural garden feel, and need very little ongoing care beyond topping up water levels in warm weather and keeping the planting tidy.

They also make a lovely pond gift. Whether you are buying for a gardener, a wildlife enthusiast, a new home, a birthday or a special garden project, a mini pond is practical, attractive and memorable — especially because it can be set up and enjoyed almost straight away.

If you choose the Mini Pond Kit Only, you can create your own planting scheme using our Pond Plant Collections, including small pond starter packs, oxygenating plant collections and marginal plant collections. These are a good choice if you want to build your own mini pond planting combination, refresh an existing container pond, or plant a small pond from scratch.

        About the plants
For the planted kit options, the plants are chosen by our growers at the time of dispatch. Plant choices vary seasonally and are selected for compact growth, suitability for container ponds and a balanced planted effect.

        The planted kits may include:

        • A dwarf water lily for floating foliage and summer flowers, depending on the option selected
        • A deep water plant such as water hawthorn or another suitable seasonal variety, depending on the option selected
        • Marginal and oxygenating plants to add height, texture, flowers, surface interest and natural structure
        Growing Instructions

        1. Choose the right position

        • Place your mini pond in a sunny or lightly shaded position. Sun encourages strong plant growth and flowering, while a little shade can help reduce excessive warming in very hot weather.
        • The dwarf water lily option is best in a sunnier position. The deep water plant option is usually more flexible and can suit sunny or lightly shaded areas.

        2. Position the bowl

        • Place the bowl on a completely flat, solid surface before filling. Once full, it will be heavy and should not be moved.
        • Do not add loose soil or garden compost directly into the bowl. Aquatic plants should be grown in suitable aquatic baskets.

        3. Fill with water

        • Rainwater is ideal. Tap water can also be used, but if practical, leave it to stand for up to 48 hours before adding plants.

        4. Add the deep water plant or lily

        • For the planted kit options, place the deep water plant or dwarf lily directly on the base of the bowl in its aquatic basket.
        • For the bowl-only option, add your chosen deep water plant, miniature lily or oxygenating plants in suitable aquatic baskets.

        5. Insert the mesh frame

        • Position the mesh frame so it sits securely on the internal lip just below the water surface.
        • If the shoots of the deep water plant or lily are already long enough, gently guide them through the mesh so they can float freely on the surface.

        6. Add the marginal and oxygenating plants

        • Place the 1 litre Finofil baskets into the mesh openings so they sit upright and stable.
        • If you are planting your own baskets, use aquatic compost and top with washed aquatic gravel to help keep the compost in place and reduce disturbance in the water.

        7. Let the pond settle

        • The pond will quickly begin to look more natural as the plants adjust and settle into position.

        8. Fish and snails

        • This mini pond is designed for plants only. We do not recommend adding fish or snails, as the container is too small to support them properly.
        Care Instructions
        • Check water levels regularly, especially during warm or windy weather, and top up as needed.
        • Remove tired leaves and spent flowers as the season progresses.
        • Avoid adding chemicals; healthy planting supports natural balance.
        • If you are planting your own baskets, use aquatic compost and top with washed aquatic gravel.
        • Do not add fish or snails to this mini pond.
        • See our Receiving and Caring for Your Pond Plants guide for more general plant care advice.
        Growers Tips

Washed aquatic gravel is one of the best finishing touches for a mini pond. It improves the appearance of planted baskets, helps keep compost in place and reduces clouding or disturbance in the water.

For the most satisfying planted look, aim for a mix of surface interest and upright structure. A dwarf lily or deep water plant in the base, combined with compact marginals and oxygenating plants in the mesh frame, creates a fuller and more natural effect.

If you choose the bowl-only option, our Pond Plant Collections are a useful way to create your own planting scheme. The small pond starter packs are especially suitable if you want a simple planting bundle to go with the empty mini pond kit.

        Wildlife Tips

Even a compact planted pond can bring extra life into the garden. It can provide drinking and bathing water for birds and may attract pollinating insects, hoverflies, bees and passing dragonflies.

For wildlife value, choose a good mix of planting rather than leaving the bowl mostly open. Marginal plants provide perching points and cover, while oxygenating and deep water plants help create a more balanced planted environment.

A mini pond will not replace a full-sized wildlife pond, but it is a simple and attractive way to add water to a patio, balcony or small garden — and even a small amount of water can make a garden feel more alive.

        Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
        Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.
