Sea rush | Juncus maritimus

    Description

Sea rush (Juncus maritimus) is an elegant marginal pond plant with fine, arching stems and distinctive tufts of brownish flowers that appear just below the sharp, pointed stem tips. Flowering from June to August, this rush brings subtle texture and movement to the water’s edge, suiting both naturalistic and contemporary pond designs.

This hardy marginal thrives in full sun to part shade and has a slow growth rate, making it a good choice where you want structure without rapid spreading. As its name suggests, Sea rush can tolerate sea spray and slightly brackish water, so it is ideal for coastal gardens and ponds with mildly saline conditions.

Like other marginal plants, Juncus maritimus helps create valuable habitat around the pond edge, offering shelter and cover for aquatic and garden wildlife while softening hard pond margins for a more natural look.

      Care Instructions

Sea Rush (Juncus maritimus) is a low-maintenance marginal plant that grows best in full sun to part shade, making it versatile for various garden settings. It thrives in coastal environments and tolerates salt spray, ideal for beach gardens and pond edges. This slow-growing plant requires minimal upkeep. In autumn, after the foliage has naturally died back, trim the stems just above the water surface to keep the plant tidy and promote healthy growth in the next season. Sea Rush's resilience and easy care make it a perfect choice for gardeners seeking a hardy, drought-tolerant plant that adds natural texture and elegance to water features and shoreline landscapes.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.
