Star grass | Dichromena colorata

    Description

Star grass (Dichromena colorata) is a striking marginal pond plant that brings interest late into the season. Its green and white, star-shaped bracts rise above the grass-like foliage, creating an elegant display from July right through to November. This makes it an excellent choice for extending colour and structure around the pond when many other plants are fading.

Ideal for planting at the water’s edge, this slow-growing marginal thrives in full sun to part shade, fitting well into a range of UK pond and water garden settings. The white star-like bracts add a light, airy feel and contrast beautifully with darker foliage and water surfaces.

As a marginal plant, Star grass helps soften pond edges and contributes to a more natural look, offering cover and habitat around the shallows that can support a wider range of pond wildlife.

      Care Instructions

Star Grass (Dichromena colorata) is a low-maintenance marginal plant perfect for ponds and water gardens. It thrives in full sun to part shade, making it adaptable to various garden conditions. To keep your Star Grass healthy and looking its best, trim the foliage just above the water surface in autumn after it has died back. Leave a small amount of trimmed material to protect new shoots during the winter. With its slow growth rate, it requires minimal upkeep, making it an excellent choice for gardeners seeking easy pond plants that add year-round interest and elegance.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.
