Variegated yellow flag | Iris pseudacorus 'Variegata'

    Description

Variegated yellow flag (Iris pseudacorus 'Variegata') is a striking marginal pond plant, ideal for adding colour and structure to the water’s edge. Early in the season, the upright leaf fans emerge with bold yellow and green striped variegation, gradually deepening to rich green as the plant matures.

In June and July, this iris produces classic yellow flowers with distinct brown markings, creating a strong vertical accent in full sun to part shade. Its medium growth rate makes it a reliable choice for most garden ponds without becoming too dominant.

As a marginal plant, Iris pseudacorus 'Variegata' helps soften pond edges, offers shelter for aquatic wildlife and contributes to a more natural-looking pond margin. This variety is best positioned in shallow water or damp soil at the pond edge. As with all iris, the tubers are harmful if eaten and should not be consumed.

      Care Instructions

Light: Variegated Yellow Flag thrives in full sun to part shade, making it a versatile choice for various garden environments.

Water: As a marginal plant, it prefers to grow at the edges of ponds or water features with roots in moist soil or shallow water.

Maintenance: After the foliage dies back in autumn, cut stems back to just above the water surface to keep the plant healthy and tidy.

Spring Care: If you wait to trim until spring, be careful not to damage new shoots emerging from the soil.

Growth Rate: This medium-growing iris establishes well with proper care and adds vibrant yellow blooms and variegated foliage to your garden each season.

Note: The tubers are toxic if ingested. Keep away from pets and children.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.
