Water avens | Geum rivale

    Description

Water avens (Geum rivale) is a charming marginal pond plant, ideal for adding soft colour and natural character to the water’s edge. This slow-growing perennial produces a profusion of delicate, nodding, bell-shaped pink flowers from May right through to September, bringing long-lasting interest to wildlife-friendly ponds and water gardens.

Water avens thrives in full sun to part shade, making it a versatile choice for a range of pond positions. Planted in the shallow margins, it helps to soften hard edges and create a more natural transition between water and land. Like many marginal plants, Geum rivale offers valuable cover around the pond edge, helping to create a more balanced and wildlife-supporting habitat. Its extended flowering season and graceful habit make Water avens a lovely choice for informal, cottage-style and naturalistic pond schemes.

      Care Instructions

Water Avens (Geum rivale) thrives best in full sun to part shade, making it versatile for various garden locations. This slow-growing marginal plant requires minimal maintenance, perfect for gardeners seeking an easy-care addition. After the foliage dies back in autumn, trim the stems just above the water surface to keep the plant tidy and encourage healthy growth for the next season. Regular tidying helps maintain its attractive appearance through the year. No special feeding is necessary. By providing these simple care steps, your Water Avens will continue to add delicate pink blooms and a charming texture to pond edges, borders, or containers season after season.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.

      Returns & problems on arrival

Because we sell live aquatic plants and molluscs, some parts of our policy work differently from standard retail.
