Water mint | Mentha aquatica

    Description

Water mint (Mentha aquatica) is a vigorous marginal pond plant with a strong, refreshing mint scent. In summer it produces rounded heads of pinkish-lilac to purple flowers from July to October, adding soft colour and fragrance around the water’s edge. Thriving in full sun to part shade, this fast-growing marginal is ideal for softening pond margins, stream edges, or boggy areas in the garden.

As a marginal plant, Water mint helps create valuable habitat around your pond, offering shelter and surface interest that supports a more natural, wildlife-friendly environment. Its dense growth can also help break up hard pond edges and blend your water feature into the surrounding planting. Mentha aquatica is a traditional herb that was once grown for its essential oils, making it a characterful and practical addition to any UK pond or wetland planting scheme.

      Care Instructions

Water mint (Mentha aquatica) thrives best in full sun to part shade, making it a versatile addition to your garden's margins or borders. This fast-growing marginal plant prefers moist soil conditions, so ensure the soil remains damp for optimal growth. You can trim water mint as needed throughout the growing season to encourage bushier growth and maintain its shape. Regular pruning also helps to keep its vibrant pinkish-lilac flowers and minty aroma at their best. Ideal for attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies, water mint adds both beauty and ecological value to your garden. For best results, plant it near water features, moist lawns, or shady rockeries where it can flourish with minimal care.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.
