Yellow eyed grass | Sisyrinchium californicum

    Description

Yellow eyed grass (Sisyrinchium californicum) is a charming marginal plant with miniature iris-like foliage and masses of star-shaped yellow flowers. Ideal for adding a soft, natural look around the edges of a pond or in a damp border, it brings bright colour from June to August.

This slow-growing marginal thrives in full sun and prefers moist to damp soil rather than standing water, making it perfect for the pondside or a reliably damp spot in the garden. The neat, grassy clumps and cheerful yellow blooms work well in both contemporary and wildlife-friendly pond designs.

As a marginal pond plant, Yellow eyed grass helps to soften hard edges, contributes to a more natural shoreline, and offers extra structure and shelter around the water’s edge. Its long flowering season and compact habit make Sisyrinchium californicum a useful choice for smaller ponds and water features where space is limited.

      Care Instructions

Care for Your Yellow Eyed Grass

Yellow Eyed Grass (Sisyrinchium californicum) thrives best in full sun with consistently moist, damp soil. While it prefers wet ground, avoid planting it directly in the pond to ensure healthy growth. This marginal plant has a slow growth rate and requires little maintenance. To keep your plant looking tidy, trim back the foliage after it has died back in autumn. This helps prepare it for the next growing season. Its minimal care needs make it an excellent choice for gardeners looking for a low-maintenance, bright flowering perennial that adds a cheerful splash of yellow to borders, rock gardens, or container displays.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.

      Returns & problems on arrival

Because we sell live aquatic plants and molluscs, some parts of our policy work differently from standard retail.

Live plants and molluscs are perishable and are not suitable for routine returns once they have been prepared for dispatch.
