Yellow flag | Iris pseudacorus

    Description

Yellow flag (Iris pseudacorus) is a striking native marginal pond plant, valued for its bold yellow flowers and architectural foliage. Flowering in June and July, this aquatic iris brings strong colour and structure to wildlife ponds, naturalistic water gardens and boggy edges.

This vigorous marginal plant thrives in full sun to partial shade, making it a versatile choice for many UK pond settings. Its upright leaves and bright blooms help create surface interest and provide shelter around the pond margins, supporting a more natural, wildlife-friendly environment.

Iris pseudacorus is the only native aquatic iris and is historically linked to the famous French Fleur-de-lys emblem. It has a fast growth rate and is best suited to larger ponds or areas where its spreading habit can be accommodated. As with all irises, the tubers are harmful if eaten and should not be consumed.

      Care Instructions

Yellow Flag Iris Pseudacorus Care Instructions: This fast-growing marginal plant thrives in full sun to part shade, making it perfect for brightening pond edges and wet garden areas. In autumn, after the foliage has naturally died back, trim the Yellow Flag Iris carefully to just above the water surface to prepare it for winter. If you prefer to leave the trimming until spring, be cautious to avoid damaging the new shoots emerging from the rhizomes. Regular pruning helps maintain healthy growth and encourages vibrant flowering in early summer. Remember, this aquatic iris spreads quickly through its rhizomes, so consider its placement carefully to manage its growth effectively. Keep the plant’s toxic tubers out of reach of pets and children for safety.

      Ordering, Shipping, Tracking and Returns
      Ordering & delivery

Some products are ready for immediate dispatch, while others are sold for a later delivery period so that they can reach you in good condition and at the right point in the growing season.

The expected delivery period for the product or variant you choose will be shown below the Add to basket button and again in the basket and checkout.

30 litre plants and some larger items are sent by specialist pallet delivery rather than standard parcel.

If your order contains products with different delivery timings, it may be split into more than one shipment. Plants or products that are ready for immediate dispatch will normally be sent first, while later-season plants will be sent when they are ready. This helps us send live plants at the appropriate point in the season and in suitable condition to travel.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.

      Returns & problems on arrival

Because we sell live aquatic plants and molluscs, some parts of our policy work differently from standard retail.

Live plants and molluscs are perishable and are not suitable for routine returns once they have been prepared for dispatch.

If there is a genuine issue on arrival, please contact us within 24 hours using the form on our Contact page, with your order number, photographs, and a short explanation.

We will always review genuine issues carefully and fairly. Depending on the circumstances, the appropriate remedy may include a replacement, refund, or partial refund where appropriate.
